        Love will tear us apart Background information: "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a song by English rock band Joy Division, released in June 1980. The lyrics were inspired by lead singer Ian Curtis' struggles with mental illness. Curtis later committed suicide and the song was released a month after. The song is 3:18 and depicts Curtis' troubled relationships with his wife, saying that they will tear each other apart as long as they love each other. The song also makes suggestions about his struggles with epilepsy, which he was diagnosed with in 1979, and the stress of keeping a day job while also worrying about his music career.  The music video begins in a rather dark setting, with Joy Division playing their instruments in a dark room.
